Lone

Ardwick House, Block C

You are the camera. There is no character on screen. The frame is you.

Every second you hold a thing in your light it takes a little more of your nerve, and mostly nothing you find in here gives even some of it back.

The lantern

It hangs in your frame, and you drag it where you want it - out ahead, held close, pushed around a corner before you follow it. It is the only thing in this building you get to decide.

You are a wanderer in a dark building and everything on the floor knows it The oil is in the drawers.

Insides

A dust sheet over a chair, a longcase clock, a coat on a hook. The rooms you searched carefully are the dangerous ones, and the rooms you hurried through were fine. But something eventually stands up...

What is in here

  • Four storeys, a basement and a roof, drawn as a side-on cutaway of one condemned building
  • Five kinds of thing, each with one rule worth learning. One never stops coming. One moves only in the dark and freezes the moment your light touches it. One is furniture until you look at it properly. One is low and wide and owns the corridor. One of them is the roof.
  • Wardrobes and beds to get into. Some are already occupied.
  • Candles that will hold a thing's attention long enough for you to walk past it
  • A notebook in two halves: what you worked out, and what the people before you left behind

Controls

Mouse and keyboard.

  • WASD to move
  • Shift to run
  • Ctrl to creep
  • Left-click and drag the lantern (or click once to carry it)
  • Scroll to open and close it
  • Right-click to hide
  • Tab for your pockets.
